A REVIEW OF THE EVERLANE DAY GLOVE

I kid you not when I say the Everlane Day Glove is THE MOST COMFORTABLE PAIR OF FLATS I HAVE EVER PUT ON MY FEET.

The name says it all: the Everlane Day Glove flats have quickly become my everyday shoe — while I can only wear them inside for the time being, I wear them #AllDamnDay while working at home … No blisters or band-aids required for breaking in.

I initially fell in love with the Everlane Day Glove flats after seeing several of my favorite ethical fashion bloggers style them last spring. But it wasn’t until the holidays when I received some extra cash that I decided to take the leap (I’ll be honest: shoes are one thing I struggle to purchase ethically due to the price point/lifespan ratio, though I’ve had a couple of great secondhand shoe finds lately, too).

The Fit

After reading the product description and scanning through several reviews, I decided to go with my true size for the Everlane Day Glove — I wear an 8-8.5 in most shoes, so I opted for the 8.5 — and they fit like a glove (If you’re between sizes like me, I recommend going with the larger one).

The Everlane Day Glove flats fit quite snug when I first put them on in the morning, but within an hour, after my feet have warmed up and the leather has stretched a little, they loosen up just right, molding perfectly to my feet.

One problem I used to run into with flats was that they never stayed on my feet while walking around. There was always the annoying slip on, slip off motion that eventually resulted in painful blisters. But the Everlane Day Glove flats are different. Because they mold to your feet, and have a snug, glove-like fit, you don’t have to worry about that pesky slip factor, and in my opinion, they’re much easier to move about in, compared to your typical flat. (Disclaimer: I have heard that if you have a higher profile foot shape, these may not be the best fit).

The Materials

The Everlane Day Glove is constructed out of a smooth, buttery-soft, pliable Tuscan leather that easily molds to your feet. The leather is tanned and dyed, then lightly stamped with a pebble texture. It features a rubber outsole, and insole perforations that were done by hand using a mallet and an awl-like tool.

Where it’s Made

Everlane only works with factories that meet their ethical manufacturing and fair labor standards. For the Day Glove, Everlane selected a small, 18-person team located just east of Pisa and west of Florence, with a deep commitment to traditional Italian craftsmanship, handling all of their leather quality control and cutting on site.
